About Me

Peak District Pilates is a one-woman band, with huge support from customers, my family and partner. I started the business as a hobby – an extra – which I could do alongside whatever I want to be when I grow up. Now I’m grown up, I want to do Pilates! The business is now my full time job and I wholeheartedly believe in it’s power to improve aches & pains, mood, and movement quality in the long term.

Hi, I’m Theresa

I’m 27 years old and have been teaching since 2017.

I chose Pilates because of my hypermobility syndrome. Alongside strength training, it created the jigsaw pieces of my rehabilitation and pain is thankfully a rare occurrence, now. Before, I feared exercise might instigate pain, but now I relish exercise as pain relief.

There is a very considered, rehabilitative personality to Pilates, but there is a really fun, physically challenging side too. Playing with endurance, pace and repetitions we can create intense sequences and some serious muscle recruitment. It gives us the knowledge to move safely, therefore enhancing other sports/activities we enjoy, too.

I love doing qualifications, courses and conferences because they refresh my teaching and excite new ideas to bring to classes. They also help me to understand specific populations or exercise considerations. Recently I’ve otped to learn with APPI, (The Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute) which is scientifically led by physiotherapists, and is super relevant and applicable to teaching.

Here’s my ‘official CV’

APPI Certified Matwork Instructor

Certified BarreControl Instructor

The Gifts of Pilates

Rehabilitative Qualities

Improved knowledge of our bodies and the chance to explore our movement in a safe and controlled way. The confidence and understanding gained is invaluable, and transfers to daily activities and other sports and exercise. I will always champion the rehabilitative qualities of Pilates practice.

Excelling Performance

It goes much further… we can fine-tune and optimise movement, improve proprioception and stability, and give us the fundamental postural strength to excel in our performance. Pilates is an important part of training and conditioning for athletes all over the world.

Focus for the Mind

We must simultaneously consider: posture, breathing, core engagement, precision, flow, and control. By the end of a session, you’ll find you didn’t have time to think of the outside world or external worries. The full attention of the mind on the body is a rare and wonderful escape.
